Joseph Canovas

Joseph Canovas is Assistant to the President and Special Counsel to the New York State AFL-CIO, a statewide federation of 3,000 unions that represent 2.5 million workers and retirees, and their families. He coordinates the organization’s operations, lobbies the executive and legislative branches of New York State government, manages federal issues and outreach, and oversees the organization’s appellate advocacy.

Joe represents workers on the Board of Governors of the New York Compensation Insurance Rating Board, and the New York Black Car Operators’ Injury Compensation Fund Board of Directors. He has also served on the New York State Insurance Fund Board of Commissioners and several New York State Workers’ Compensation Board advisory committees.

He holds a B.A and a J.D. from St. John’s University and is admitted to practice law in New York and Connecticut.
